Urgent Search Underway in Mojave Desert after California Helicopter Crash with 6 Aboard.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has reported that no survivors have been found following the helicopter crash, yet they have refrained from confirming whether any fatalities have occurred.
On Friday night, authorities in southern California‘s Mojave Desert reported a helicopter crash involving six people.
The fate of the people on board remains unclear. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has reported no survivors found, yet they have not confirmed any fatalities either.
The crash was reported to authorities at 10:12 p.m. on Friday. According to officials, the helicopter went down east of Interstate 15 near Halloran Springs Road, close to the California-Nevada border, and roughly 80 miles (128.75 km) from Las Vegas.
The helicopter, identified as a Eurocopter EC120, was confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration to have six people on board. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will conduct investigations into the crash.
The NTSB stated that their investigators would arrive on Saturday to start gathering information about the crash.
KABC-TV stated that the helicopter departed from Palm Springs airport around 8:45 p.m. and was en route to Boulder City, Nevada. Boulder City is approximately 26 miles (41 km) southeast of Las Vegas, where the Super Bowl LVIII featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers is scheduled for Sunday.
